community guidelines
Last updated: October 1, 2026
- Study Roomies is a quiet, kind place to focus with other people. Keep it that way.
- We have zero tolerance for harassment, hate, sexual content and abuse.
- If someone makes you uncomfortable, block them and report them. We review every report.
Everyone in a room can see your name and your status, so think of them like a name tag at a library table. These guidelines are part of our terms of use, and apply to everything you write or show in Study Roomies: your display name, your status, and anything you send other roomies.
be a good roomie
- Be kind, or be quiet. Everyone here is trying to get something done.
- Keep names and statuses friendly and suitable for everyone, including teens. Some roomies are 13.
- Be yourself. Don't pretend to be another person, a famous person, or the Study Roomies team.
- Keep personal details to yourself, and never share anyone else's.
not allowed, ever
We have zero tolerance for:
- Harassment and bullying: insults, threats, intimidation, or targeting someone again and again.
- Hate: slurs or attacks on people for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age or any similar trait.
- Sexual content: anything sexual or sexually suggestive, and anything at all that sexualizes minors.
- Violence and self-harm: threats, glorifying violence, or encouraging anyone to hurt themselves. If you're struggling, please reach out to a local crisis line or emergency services.
- Illegal and dangerous things: drugs, weapons, scams, or anything else against the law.
- Spam and scams: ads, links, or trying to move people to other apps or sites.
- Sharing personal information: your own or anyone else's, like phone numbers, addresses, social media handles or school names.
- Getting around the rules: misspelling words to get past our filters, making new accounts after a ban, or cheating the coin system.
how we keep rooms safe
- Filters: we check names and statuses for inappropriate words before anyone sees them. If yours is turned down, just pick something else.
- Block: while you're looking at a roomie, tap report, then block. You won't see their name or status anymore, and they won't be told. You can unblock them later in your profile.
- Report: while you're looking at a roomie, tap report, then choose what's wrong. A person on our team reviews every report. We never tell anyone who reported them.
what happens if you break the rules
Depending on how serious it is, and whether it's happened before, we may:
- Remove it: clear your status, or change your name to a generated one.
- Lock your name and status: for 7 days you can't change your name or set a custom status.
- Ban your account: for serious or repeated harm, like ongoing harassment. A banned account can't join rooms, and making a new account after a ban isn't allowed.
We'll tell you in the app what we did and why. For the most serious cases we may skip steps, or act without warning.
if you reported someone
Thank you. Once we've reviewed your report, you'll get a message in the app letting you know it's been addressed. To protect everyone's privacy, we don't share what action we took.
think we got it wrong?
Email support@studyroomies.com from the email on your account, and tell us what happened. We'll take another look.
in an emergency
If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first. We can't respond to emergencies.
